Gentle Updates to a Historic Cape Elizabeth Home

We’ve been working on updating a beautiful, historic home in Cape Elizabeth, originally designed by the renowned architect John Calvin Stevens. We wanted to breathe new life into this timeless space while preserving the charm and character Stevens is known for.

The design is focused on soft color schemes—warm neutrals and calming blues—that blend seamlessly with the home’s classic design, creating a peaceful, welcoming atmosphere.

A key part of the update has been incorporating artistic wallpapers. We’ve chosen a timeless floral from England for the study and a painterly pattern for the breakfast room, complementing the home’s heritage while bringing a fresh touch.

We prioritized durable materials suitable for a young family, ensuring that the finishes not only look beautiful but also stand up to the wear and tear of daily life. We complemented this with a thoughtful mix of traditional design elements and transitional furnishings, creating an eclectic yet cohesive aesthetic that blends the home’s rich history with all the modern comforts.

It’s been a rewarding process, gently updating this historic home, and I’m excited to see how these thoughtful updates will help it continue telling its story for generations to come.

At Fiore Interiors, we love working on historic Maine homes with a modern sensibility. If you're looking to preserve your home’s charm while adding modern touches, our team at Fiore Interiors can help bring your vision to life.
